This conference examined next steps for mental health policy in Ireland.

It was a timely opportunity for stakeholders and policymakers to discuss the proposed updated legislation on mental health, including the reform of the Mental Health Act following the public consultation and Report of the Expert Group Review of the Mental Health Act, 2001.

Sessions in the agenda looked at:

  • mental health policy in Ireland - including priorities in the context of COVID-19
  • quality, standards, and safety - priorities for provision & improvement
  • the mental health and social care workforce - recruitment - retention - support for physical & mental wellbeing
  • delivery of mental health policy ambitions - funding - value for money - organisation
  • provision across child & adult mental health services - tackling the effects of the pandemic - meeting increased demand - ensuring high standards in individual care
  • severe mental illness - tackling stigma - delivering high quality patient care

We are very pleased to have been able to include a keynote sessions with Mary Butler TD, Minister of State for Mental Health and Older People; John Church, Chief Executive, The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC); Gary Kiernan, Director of Regulation, Mental Health Commission; and Professor Veronica O’Keane, Associate Professor Consultant, Psychiatry, Trinity College Dublin.
